Softball Takes on Gordon, Mother Nature

WENHAM, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team (2-11) was defeated by Gordon (8-11), 8-0, in game one of a scheduled doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Gordon took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on one of four Fighting Scot home runs on the day.
  • The Fighting Scots added four in the third inning using a one-out walk, a stolen base, and an error to get the first run before a three-run home run made it 5-0 in favor of the hosts
  • A leadoff home run in the sixth inning made it a 6-0 contest before a two-run home run two batters later ended the game.
  • Junior Alexandra Pina (Cumberland, R.I.) was 1-for-2 with a double. Sophomore Julia Bollentin (South Kingstown, R.I.) was 1-for-2 while classmate Kaitlin Pettenger (Budd Lake, N.J.) was 1-for-3.
  • Game two was tied at 3-all in the fourth inning when the game was called due to rain.

ALL-TIME SERIES:

  • Today marked the 50th all-time meeting between the two teams. Gordon holds a 36-15 series advantage.
