Softball Hosts Endicott on Senior Day

BOSTON, Mass. – On Senior Day, the Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team took on first-place Endicott with the visiting Gulls sweeping the Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader, 11-1, and 13-0.


GAME ONE:  Endicott 11, Wentworth 1 (5)

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Endicott jumped on the board in the top of the first, scoring seven times, which included a pair of two-run singles. Sophomore Kaitlin Pettenger (Budd Lake, N.J.) led off the home half of the first with an infield single.
  • The Gulls added a pair of runs in the top of the second on a two-run single, and, in the home half of the third, Wentworth got on the board. With two outs, Pettenger walked and was doubled home by junior Briana Beverly (Pawcatuck, Conn.) one batter later.
  • An RBI single and a Leopard error allowed for the Gulls to score two more times in the fifth inning.
  • Senior Kayla DeMedeiros (South Dartmouth, Mass.) took the loss (1-8) while sophomore Erin Hancock (Holden, Mass.) pitched four innings in relief. At the plate, Beverly was 2-for-3 with an RBI double.


GAME TWO:  Endicott 13, Wentworth 0 (5)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Using a pair of RBI singles and a two-run, bases-loaded single, Endicott took a 4-0 lead after the first inning. A pair of Wentworth errors opened the second inning and the Gulls scored two unearned runs to take a 6-0 lead.
  • In the third inning, Endicott extended its lead to 9-0, thanks to a three-run home run and the Gulls scored four times in the top of the fifth inning to round out the scoring.
  • Junior Aurora Wilks (Fruitport, Mich.) took the loss (0-1), allowing four runs in the first inning. DeMedeiros (two innings) and Hancock (two innings) both saw action in the circle as well. At the plate, Pettenger was 1-for-2 while senior Jacqueline Kassis (Walpole, Mass.) was 1-for-1.


ALL-TIME SERIES:

  • Today marked the 39th and 40th all-time meetings between the two programs. Endicott holds an 0-39-1 record.
