Women's Volleyball Falls Twice at Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. – The Wentworth women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at a tri-match at Rivier. The Leopards fell to the host Raiders by a 3-0 score before completing the day with a 3-1 setback at the hands of Bates.

Rivier raced out to a fast start in the opening set and never looked back, cruising to a 25-9 win. The second set saw neither team hit well and was a much closer set than the opener, but the Raiders capitalized on Leopard errors down the stretch and pulled out a 25-22 win. In the third set the Leopards had their highest hitting percentage (.211) of the match but Rivier completed the sweep with a 25-12 triumph.

Senior Julie Rahilly (Nashua, N.H.) had six kills and 13 digs to pace the Black & Gold. Junior Michelle Hobbs (Northwood, N.H.) added three kills and 13 digs while sophomore Jessica Houghton (Billerica, Mass.) had nine digs. Sophomore Sam Curran (Quincy, Mass.) had six assists.

The first-ever meeting between Wentworth and Bates saw the Leopards claim a 25-21 win in the first set. However, the Bobcats held the Leopards to a .000 attack percentage in the second set, en route to a 25-13 win. Bates would take a 2-1 lead with a 25-14 win in the third set and close out the match with a 25-15 win in the fourth set.

Hobbs led the Wentworth offense with 10 kills to go along with seven digs, while Rahilly added seven kills and 13 digs. Curran had 23 assists and three of the Leopards' six aces, while classmate Stephanie Nguyen (Medford, Mass.) had 15 digs.

At 3-5 Wentworth opens Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Tuesday night at Gordon.
