Women's Volleyball Falls at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, Conn.) set a new school record for career assists in a 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-17) win by the Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball over Wentworth Institute of Technology Thursday evening on the team's Dig Pink Match.

Lebowitz broke the previous school record of 3,263, set by Kirsten Bosworth '08 four years ago. The record-breaking assist came in the second set, with Lebowitz serving a pass to Kelsey Twarog (Barkhamsted, Conn.) to put RWU up 3-1.

Lebowitz would go on to finish the match with 21 assists, giving her 3,274 for her career.

In the opening set, the Hawks opened the match on a 5-0 run before the Leopards pulledto within three (7-4). However, the Hawks quickly responded with a 7-3 run to take a 14-6 lead. Kelsee Loche (Millis, Mass.) would help serve the Hawks from 18-9 to 24-9, with Abby Cunningham (Catasauqua, Pa.) closing out the game with a service ace.

The second set saw the Leopards keep pace with the Hawks early one, keeping within four points over the first half of the period. However, with the score 9-5 in favor of the Hawks, an 8-5 run built RWU's advantage to seven. From that point, Wentworth never came closer than six en route to RWU's 25-13 win.

In third set, the Leopards' Michelle Hobbs (Northwood, N.H.) opened the game with a kill, giving Wentworth its first lead of the match. The Hawks would take the lead for good on a kill by Andrea Gorman (Wilbraham, Mass.), making it 3-2 in favor of RWU. A 5-0 run would later help bring the Hawk advantage to 13-6. The Hawks ended the game on a 6-3 win, with Brittany Bona (Scarborough, Maine) notching the final two kills to secure the win.

Gorman and Elizabeth Flaherty (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) led RWU with seven kills apiece. Loche finished with 12 digs and three service aces. Cunningham hit .667 in the match, recording six kills on nine swings without an error. Holly Hancock (Tilton, N.H.) added six kills and four blocks, while Nicole Weber (Poulsbo, Wash.) had 12 assists.

Hobbs led Wentworth with a match-high 11 kills. Sam Curran (Quincy, Mass.) added 13 digs, while Shannon Ponce (San Jose, Calif.) finished with 19 assists and eight digs.

Roger Williams (14-9, 5-0 CCC) goes to the Little Rhody Invitational on Saturday at Rhode Island College, while Wentworth (7-11, 2-3 CCC) hosts Endicott next Tuesday.
