UNE Snaps Women's Volleyball's Win Streak

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior Angie Brunette (North Andover, Mass.) put down 13 kills and had an attack percentage of .667 to help lead the University of New England to a 3-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference women's volleyball victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology Wednesday evening at the Harold Alfond Forum. The set scores were 25-11, 25-11, and 25-14.

The triumph was the eighth in-a-row for the Nor'easters (7-3, 2-1 CCC) against the Leopards, who see their three-match win streak come to an end and fall to 6-6 overall (1-1 CCC).

Brunette added a pair of solo blocks and two service aces to her final stat-line, while sophomore Leah Janelle (Madbury, N.H.) contributed 11 kills and seven digs in support. Senior Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) added seven kills and a couple of blocks.

Junior Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) fueled the offense with 35 assists to go with three aces and six digs. Senior Jackie Stone (Saginaw, Mich.) and junior Kirsta Adie (Tyngsboro, Mass.) each picked up a team-best eight digs, while Adie tossed in a match-high four aces.

For Wentworth, junior Michelle Hobbs (Northwood, N.H.) totaled a team-best eight kills and matched that amount in the digs category. Sophomore Sam Curran (Quincy, Mass.) led all players with 11 digs, while junior Mary Horgan (Mahwah, N.J.) tallied another eight digs for the visitors.

Sophomore Shannon Ponce (San Jose, Calif.) recorded 15 assists for the Leopards, who head to Curry College on Saturday for a tri-match with the Colonels and Framingham State University.

The Nor'easters, who never trailed in the entire match, make the trip to Bristol, R.I. the same day for a pair of contests with Roger Williams University and Keene State College.
