Golf Finishes Fifth at CCC Qualifier

MANCHESTER, Mass. - Western New England University finished the 2013 Commonwealth Coast Conference Golf Qualifier with the lowest team score on the day with a 306. On the par 70 course, Nichols College sophomore Colin Whitney recorded a two-under 68 (34-34) to take the medalist honors. Western New England's Matt Fontaine (37-37-74) and Patrick Donahue (38-37-75), University of New England's Ryan Mahoney (37-38-75) and Sam Kinasewich (40-38-78), and Endicott's Austin Teal (43-35-78), Ian Teal (40-38-78), and Zach Golojuch (40-38-78) round out the top eight finishers.

The other team scores included Nichols (310), University of New England (312), Endicott (314), Wentworth (332), Roger Williams (334), and Eastern Nazarene (542). The top four teams will now advance to the spring championship.

Wentworth senior Eric Anderson (Abington, Mass.) finished tied for 10th, shooting a nine-over 79 to pace the Leopards. Junior Dante Christofori (Springfield, Mass.) carded an 82, tying him for 20th. Classmate Pat Sullivan (Needham, Mass.) shot an 84 on the day, while sophomore Brad Tyler (San Diego, Calif.) shot an 87 to round out the Leopard scorers. Junior Brandon Goold (Foxboro, Mass.) finished the day with an 88.

The 2014 CCC Golf Championship will be held on April 26 and 27 with Western New England serving as the host institution. The championship site is to be determined.
