Anderson Named All-Commonwealth Coast Conference

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Student-athletes from five of the seven institutions that sponsor men's golf in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) were represented on the 2014 All-CCC Men's Golf Team. In addition to the inaugural all-conference team, winners of three major individual awards and the team sportsmanship award were also selected.

The CCC Golfer of the Year was decided at the CCC Championship that was held on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27. After carding the lowest score at the two-day event, Western New England senior Eric Hedberg claimed the CCC Golfer of the Year honor. Golden Bear teammate Matthew Fontaine was selected as the CCC Rookie of the Year, while University of New England's Andrew Emery was named CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Endicott's Tom Smith was tabbed CCC Coach of the Year and the University of New England was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Voting for the All-CCC team and major awards was conducted among CCC golf coaches.

Wentworth Institute of Technology senior Eric Anderson (Abington, Mass.) was named to the second team in the inaugural year of the conference recognizing student-athletes who have excelled on the course.

Anderson played in seven rounds this season for the Leopards where he had a 77.86 stroke average, which was the second-best per round average in program history. He shot a career-best 71 in a tri-match against Newbury and Daniel Webster on September 9 and matched that score in the second round of the 79th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship on October 28. His 71 at the NEIGA Tournament came a day after he had shot an 83 in the opening round.

Named All-New England by the NEIGA in 2011, Anderson competed in 32 rounds during his career and his 80.48 stroke average is the second-best in program history. In 23 events, he finished first twice, was in the top five three other times, and in the top 10 a total of eight times.
