Men's Soccer Falls to Gordon

BOSTON, Mass. – Five different players scored goals and senior Kellen Kasiguran (Oakwood Village, Ohio) had a pair of assists as the Gordon College men's soccer team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 5-1, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action played on Sweeney Field.

The Fighting Scots, winners of four straight and ranked No. 22 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America national poll, improve to 14-1 overall and 5-1 in league play. Wentworth falls to 2-12 overall and 2-4 in league play.

Kasiguran got things started for Gordon when he served a corner kick from the left side through the box. Freshman Colten Corey (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) headed the corner to the right side to give the Fighting Scots a 1-0 lead at 19:54. Freshman Caleb Cole (Coatesville, Pa.) put the visitors ahead 2-0 when he collected a loose ball at the top of the box and buried a shot to the left side at 22:15.

Cole set up junior Andrew Vandervoot (Memphis, Tenn.), who put a shot inside the right post to give Gordon a 3-0 lead at 37:42, a lead the Fighting Scots would carry into the break. After 45 minutes, Gordon held an 11-7 shot advantage.

At 69:19 sophomore Dalton Weaner (Northbridge, Mass.) buried a long shot from the left side to the upper right corner before Kasiguran sent freshman Aaron Terjanian (West Chester, Pa.) on a long run at 70:46 to five the Fighting Scots a 5-0 lead.

Leopard freshman Allan Eagan (Newburyport, Mass.) collected his first collegiate goal with 5:39 remaining when he collected a pass from senior Mike Sousa (Fall River, Mass.) and drilled a shot from the left side that went inside the right post.

Freshman Josh Spoonhour (Greencastle, Pa.) played the first half, making two saves before giving way to senior Tim Hardy (Gorham, Maine) who would need to make just one stop. Junior Aaron Horton (Douglas, Mass.) played the final 6:58 for the Fighting Scots, who held a 20-16 shot advantage and a 9-4 edge on corner kicks. Freshman Chase Richard (Smithfield, R.I.) made eight saves for the Leopards.

Both teams are back in action on Wednesday as Gordon hosts the University of New England and Wentwrth is at Eastern Nazarene.
