Reed, Hansen Earn GNAC Weekly Honors

BOSTON, Mass. – After posting a 3-0 week, including a win over a nationally ranked opponent, two members of the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team have been honored by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Senior Jake Reed (Arvada, Colo.) was named GNAC Offensive Player of the Week while classmate Mike Hansen (Rochester, N.Y.) was named the league's defensive player of the week. The duo earned these honors for matches played from March 27-April 2.

Reed picks up his second offensive player of the week honor after averaging 3.25 kills per set and hitting .404 in two matches for the Leopards. In a 3-1 win over Rivier he had nine kills and hit .389 and followed that up with a 17-kill, two-ace, five-dig performance in a 3-1 win over No. 8 Lasell. Reed also hit .414 in that match. On the season Reed is averaging 3.45 kills and 1.22 digs per set while hitting .320.

On the defensive end, Hansen averaged 1.88 blocks per set. In Wentworth's 3-1 win over River he had nine blocks (two solo, seven assisted) and had six blocks (two solo, four assisted) in a 3-1 win over No. 8 Lasell. His nine blocks against Rivier tied him for the most in a four-set match in program history. On the season, Hansen is averaging 1.01 blocks per set in addition to averaging 1.01 kills per set.

Ranked eighth in Division III, Wentworth is 22-6 overall and 11-1 in GNAC play. The Leopards travel to Emmanuel on Thursday.
