BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team (8-4) couldn't find any luck offensively against the Brandeis(3-1), resulting in 3-0 and 4-0 losses to the Judges at Carr Diamond on Saturday.

GAME ONE: BRANDEIS 3, WENTWORTH 0

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • In the top of the first inning, the Judges got on the board as a single by junior Haley Nash (Delmar, N.Y.) drove in freshman Erin Hunt (Wake Forest, N.C.), putting the visitors ahead 1-0.
  • A solo home run by Nash in the sixth inning doubled Brandeis' lead to 2-0.
  • A Hunt double in the seventh inning brought in another score for the Judges, marking a 3-0 advantage. In the inning following, Brandeis shut down Wentworth's first three batters, ending the game at a 3-0 score.
  • Freshman Kyla Igawa (Long Beach, Calif.) tallied a hit for the Leopards. On the mound, senior Erin Hancock (Holden, Mass.) struck out five across seven innings.

GAME TWO: BRANDEIS 4, WENTWORTH 0

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • A defensive battle throughout the first four innings opened up in the top of the fifth inning, as a Hunt single combined with an error drove in the ice-breaking run. A double from junior Alex Cohen (West Palm Beach, Fla.) drove home Hunt, raising the score to 2-0. Another single combined with an error drove another run in the inning in, bringing Brandeis' lead to 3-0.
  • An inning later, Hunt scored another run on the day to bring the Judges' advantage to 4-0. Not getting much in the latter portion of the inning, Wentworth got two runners on base on hits from Igawa and senior Julia Bollentin (South Kingstown, R.I.). However, Brandeis clinched two outs on the next two batters, bringing the game to a conclusion at a 4-0 score.
  • Offensively, Bollentin, Igawa, and sophomore Katelin Howe (Bow, N.H.) all recorded a hit for the Leopards. On the mound, freshman Julie Schriver (Moscow, Pa.) struck out six across six innings. In relief, Hancock struck out two in the final inning.
