SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Coming off a season that saw a 15-12 record, a second-place finish in The Commonwealth Coast Conference, advancing to TCCC Semifinals, and making its first ECAC Tournament appearance since 1998, the Wentworth men's basketball team has been selected to finish third in TCCC Men's Basketball Pre-Season Poll, which was voted on by all 14 of the league's coaches.
The Leopards garnered 157 of a possible 194 points and were one of six teams selected to pick up a first-place vote on the coaches' ballots as Wentworth picked up three first-place votes. The 157 points were behind Curry's 174 and Endicott's 164, while ahead of Colby-Sawyer's 149 (fourth) and Roger Williams' 127 (fifth) to round out the top five. All of the top five picks received at least one first-place vote.
Under the direction of ninth-year head coach – and 2010 TCCC Coach of the Year – Tom Devitt, Wentworth returns seven players from last season's squad, including First Team All-TCCC selection Sam Herrick (Duxbury, Mass.), who averaged 11.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per game a season ago.
The Leopards open the 2010-11 campaign on Monday night (Nov. 15) at Wheelock.
