BOSTON, Mass. – Junior guard Eric Prue (Auburn, Maine) connected on 9 of 14 shots from the floor – including going 7-for-12 from behind the three-point arc – to score a career-high 26 points as the Wentworth men's basketball team won its second straight game with an 85-60 win over Lesley.
The Leopards raced out to an 11-0 lead to start the game with junior Guard Adam Dombrowski (Dunstable, Mass.) tallying four points and Prue burying his first three of the game.
Holding a 19-9 lead with 11:36 left in the half, Wentworth went on a 19-0 run to take a 38-9 lead on a senior guard Keenan Burke-Pitts (Auburn, Mass.) three pointer with 3:51 remaining. The Leopards took a 45-13 lead into the locker room after shooting 51.5 percent from the floor (including 54.4 percent from behind the arc) and holding the Lynx to just 5-for-30 (16.7 percent) shooting.
Lesley began the second half by outscoring Wentworth 20-6 over the opening 9:17 as junior guard John Sanchez (Carson, Calif.) had 13 of his team's 20 points. However, seven straight points by the Leopards – starting with a three pointer by Prue – extended the lead to 25 (56-23) and ended Lesley's comeback bid. Wentworth would lead by as much as 31 late in the contest.
In addition to his 26 points, Prue had six rebounds and three assists. Dombrowski came off the bench to score 12 points in 11 minutes, with all his scoring coming in the first half, while junior forward Matt Harte (Troy, N.Y.) added 11. Burke-Pitts tallied eight points and dished out seven assists, while senior forward Sam Herrick (Duxbury, Mass.) had eight points and six rebounds.
Sanchez connected on 7 of 11 shots and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line to lead Lesley with 26 points, in addition to eight assists and a pair of steals. The Lynx shot 59.3 percent from the floor in the second half, but were outrebounded for the game, 43-28.
With the win, Wentworth improves to 2-4 and is at Connecticut College on Tuesday night. Lesley falls to 2-5 and is home against UMass Boston on Thursday evening.
