Wentworth Wins Second Straight, 76-58, Over Regis

WESTON, Mass. – Junior Adam Dombrowski (Dunstable, Mass.) posted his second straight 21-point game to help pace the Wentworth men's basketball team to a 76-58 win over Regis in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest.  With the win, Wentworth improves to 10-8 overall and 5-2 in conference play, while Regis falls to 12-7 (5-2).  The win marks the sixth straight season the Leopards have finished with 10 or more victories.

The Leopards opened up the game with a deep three-point shot from Dombrowski bringing the lead to 3-0, which was followed by a lay-up from freshman Robert Edwards (Idaho Falls, Idaho) to trail by one.  The Leopards would tag on a 12-3 run to extend the lead to 10 when sophomore Corey Therriault drained a three.

Wentworth's first-half lead hovered around 10 for the majority of the stanza before an 11-0 run to close out the half turned a 27-23 lead into a 38-23 lead at the break.  Both teams shot over 50 percent in the first half, with Wentworth shooting 11-for-21 and Regis going 9-for-17.  The Leopards shot 4-for-8 from behind the arc.

Freshman Derek Mayo (Casco, Maine) opened the second half with a basket that extended the lead to 17, but a 10-2 run, capped off by a three pointer from senior guard Derrick Neal (Boston, Mass.), cut the lead to nine.  The Leopards responded with a 9-0 run – featuring six points from senior Sam Herrick (Duxbury, Mass.) – to lead, 51-33, with 13:33 to play.  Wentworth led by as many as 24 with three minutes to play.

Dombrowski went 6-for-13 from the floor and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the line, while dishing out a pair of assists and recording three steals.  Herrick went 4-for-6 from the floor and 11-for-12 from the floor to record 19 points and haul down nine rebounds.  Wentworth shot 57.1 percent from the floor and held a 32-19 advantage on the glass.

Neal had 15 points in a losing effort for the Pride, while classmate Darrin Kelley (South Dennis, Mass.) added 13.

Wentworth hosts the University of New England on Wednesday, while Regis hosts Gordon that same night.
