High Five For Leopard Hockey Team

BOSTON, Mass. – Five different players scored goals while freshman defenseman Shaun Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) recorded a pair of assists as the Wentworth hockey team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 5-1 win over Franklin Pierce in a non-league game played at Matthews Arena.

The hosts got on the board at the 6:08 mark when sophomore forward Luke Heller (Scituate, Mass.) tipped home a senior defenseman Martin Winzer (Nuremberg, Germany) shot.  The lead would be short-lived, though, as the Ravens capitalized on one of five first period power play chances when sophomore Nathaniel Schursky (Scottsdale, Ariz.) scored from junior forward Sean Woodring (Rogue River, Ore.) and freshman forward William Aubin (Sterling, Mass.) at 8:11.

Just over two minutes later the Leopards took the lead for good on a junior defenseman Kyle Richardson (San Jose, Calif.) power play tally, which was assisted by sophomore defenseman Alan Dionne (North Scituate, R.I.) and sophomore forward Casey Shade (Anchorage, Alaska) at 10:13.

Wentworth scored two goals in the second stanza as junior forward Geric Brodt (Anchorage, Alaska) scored from Jameson and sophomore forward Forrest Ellis (Pembroke, N.H.) at 4:39, followed by a goal from junior forward Tyler Medeiros (Somerset, Mass.) at 9:48.  Freshman forward Mike Marrocco (Braintree, Mass.) rounded out the scoring at the 16:31 mark of the third period with his first career goal.

Junior goalie Justin Marriott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) made 25 saves for Wentworth, while sophomore netminder Ben Siok (Holden, Mass.) made 32 for the Ravens.  Wentworth held a 37-26 shot advantage on the night.

Wentworth is back in action on Friday afternoon as they play Worcester State at the IC Credit Union Shootout in Fitchburg, Mass.  Franklin Pierce, which falls to 1-2, is at Westfield State Thursday night.
