GENEVA, N.Y. – The 14th-ranked Wentworth Institute of Technology hockey team used a pair of third period goals to snap a 2-2 tie and defeat Hobart, 4-2, in the final game of the weekend series between the two teams.

First-year Chris Cannizzaro (Cazenovia, N.Y.) led Hobart with a goal and an assist, while classmate Ryan Corcoran (Stamford, Conn.) added two helpers. Cannizzaro scored the first goal of the game on a power play in the eighth minute. He was assisted by Corcoran and junior Patrick Moriarty (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.). The goal marked Cannizzaro's team-high 10th of the season.

Less than five minutes later, Wentworth got on the board. First-year Anthony Principato (Holmdel, N.J.) recorded the tally, set up by Shaun Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) and Forrest Ellis (Pembroke, N.H.).

The Leopards went on to strike first in the second period, thanks to a power-play goal from Michael O'Brien (Royersford, Pa.) in the 17th minute. Principato and Jameson recorded the helpers, putting the visitors up 2-1.

It didn't take long for the Statesmen to answer, as Cannizzaro and Corcoran found senior Bryant Harris (Plainfield, N.H.) for a power-play goal in the 19th minute. The teams took the 2-2 tie into the final break.

Wentworth scored again just 3:53 into the third period, and fought hard to keep the lead. Senior Jeff Olitch (Calgary, Alberta) netted the eventual game-winner, with Jameson again picking up the assist. Jameson went on to score on Hobart's empty net with 37 seconds remaining in regulation, giving his team a 4-2 edge.

The Statesmen held a 50-43 advantage in shots, and were 2-for-6 on power play opportunities. Wentworth was 1-for-6 on the power play.

First-year goalie Nick Broadwater (Portland, Maine) collected 39 stops for Hobart, while first-year Michael Jarboe (Grosse Point Park, Mich.) registered 48 saves for the Leopards.

Both teams resume conference play this week.  Wentworth travels to Curry on Thursday evening, while the Statesmen will be back in action Jan. 22-23, when they travel to Neumann for two ECAC West contests.
