Leopards Open Season With 3-1 Win at Becker

MARLBOROUGH, Mass- Wentworth scored two goals in the first period, as the Leopards held on for 3-1 victory over Becker College in ECAC Northeast men's hockey action.

 

Wentworth jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Martin Winzer (Nuremberg, Germany) scored a power play goal 8:12 into the game. The Leopards extended the lead with seven seconds remaining in the first period, when Alan Dionne (North Situate, R.I.) and Mark McKamey (Powell River, B.C.) set up Michael O'Brien (Royersford, Pa.) for the eventual game winner.

 

Becker made things interesting in the second period, when Rob Johnson (Fenton, Mich.) scored a power play goal. Brian Murray (Manalapan, N.J.) and Don Kane (Staten Island, N.Y.) we credited with the assists, making the score 2-1 Wentworth after two periods.

 

The score remained the same until 10:09 of the third period when Skylur Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) managed to knock the puck into the net in the midst of a scrum, making the score 3-1.

 

Wentworth goalkeeper Justin Marriott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) made 28 saves to earn the Leopards first win of the season. Becker goalkeeper Jake Rosenthal (Wantagh, N.Y.) made 23 saves for the loss. Becker fell to 0-1 on the season.
