GENEVA, N.Y. – The 14th-ranked Wentworth hockey team earned its first-ever win over Hobart as the Leopards downed the Statesmen, 2-0, in a non-conference contest at The Cooler. Winners of four in a row the Leopards improve to 11-1-1 on the year while the Statesmen slip to 7-7-2 overall.

Hobart outshot Wentworth 44-28, but could not get the puck past senior goalie Justin Marriott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.). Marriott stopped all 44 shots he faced en route to his seventh career shutout, which ties the Leopards' program record. Twenty of Marriott's saves came in the third period, as he effectively held off a torrent of shots from the Statesmen.

After a scoreless first period, Wentworth notched its first tally on a power play in the 12th minute of the second. Freshman defenseman Dylan Barberi (Plainville, Mass.) recorded the goal, his first of the season, assisted by sophomore Skylur Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) and senior Jeff Olitch (Calgary, Alberta). Jameson would go on to seal the game for the Leopards with an empty net goal in the 19th minute of the third period.

Freshmen Brad Richard (New Bedford, Mass.) and Chris Cannizzaro (Cazenovia, N.Y.) paced Hobart with seven and six shots, respectively, while freshman goalie Nick Broadwater (Portland, Maine) collected 26 saves.

The Leopards were 1-for-7 on the power play, while the Statesmen were 0-for-6.  Hobart and Wentworth will faceoff again tomorrow, Jan. 16, at 4 p.m. in The Cooler.
