Mass. Maritime Shuts Out Men's Soccer

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Connor McInnis (Duxbury, Mass.) and freshman Chris Beaulieu (Carver, Mass.) each scored goals while sophomore Joe Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.) made eight saves as the Massachusetts Maritime men's soccer team shut out Wentworth Institute of Technology, 2-0, in non-conference action at Sweeney Field.

With the win the Buccaneers improve to 2-1 on the year while the Leopards suffer their first loss, falling to 0-1-3 on the season.

McInnis scored the only goal Mass. Maritime would need at the 14:28 mark when senior Dillion Jones (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) sent a pass from the left side into the box. McInnis one-timed a shot to the left side, past the reach of Wentworth junior Kevin Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.).

Despite trailing at halftime, the Leopards held a 10-6 shot advantage, however only three of those shots were on target.

The Buccaneers added an insurance marker with 20:36 left in the contest when Beaulieu controlled a loose ball just inside the top of the box and sent a shot to the upper middle of the goal.

Pepin finished with five saves. Wentworth held a 24-12 shot advantage and took five of the game's seven corners.

Wentworth opens Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Saturday night at Gordon. That same day Mass. Maritime is at WPI.
