SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman midfielder Joe Kalil (Franklin, Mass.) of the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team has been recognized by the Commonwealth Coast Conference as both the Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for games played from September 22-28.
In a 1-1 week for the Leopards, Kalil scored all three of Wentworth's goals as he tallied twice in a 4-2 loss at UMass Boston and his golden goal at 4:18 of overtime lifted the Black & Gold to a 2-1 win over Salve Regina. The win over the Seahawks snapped a four-game series winless streak and gave Wentworth its first win over Salve Regina since the 2009 season.
Kalil has started eight of the Leopards' nine games, scoring four goals for eight points in his rookie campaign.
Sitting at 3-3-3 (2-1 CCC), Wentworth is at Lesley on Wednesday night.
