Late Goals Lift Men's Soccer Past Lesley

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Erik Shaw (Hooksett, N.H.) and junior Max Hilchuk (Wethersfield, Conn.) scored 1:13 apart late in the contest to snap a 1-all tie and lift the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Lesley in non-conference action at Buckingham Browne & Nichols.

With the win the Leopards, winners of two straight, improve to 4-3-3 and equal the total number of wins by the program in the previous two seasons combined. The Lynx slip to 2-4-3 on the season.

The Leopards wasted little time getting on the board as freshman Gaston Cetrangolo (Easton, Mass.) recorded his first collegiate tally just 1:54 into the contest as he took a feed from junior Sam Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.) blasted a shot from 10 yards out.

Both teams had five shots through the first half, with Wentworth putting two shots on frame to Lesley's one and the one extra shot coming on Cetrangolo's marker.

Lesley evened the score at 1-allat the 63:19 mark when senior Jordan Santos (Middlebury, Conn.) served a free kick into the box where junior Ryan Richardson (Santa Barbara, Calif.) found the back of the net.

At 82:51 Shaw broke the tie when he took a pass from sophomore Alec Watkinson (Merrimack, N.H.) and fired a shot from 20 yards out that found the top right corner of the net. Just 1:13 later, Hilchuk added an insurance goal off a Shaw feed.

Freshman Alec Boyle (Shirley, Mass.) made a pair of saves to pick up the win in his collegiate debut. Junior Chase Donley (Elizabethtown, Pa.) made six saves in the loss for the Lynx. The Leopards held a 16-8 shot advantage and a 7-2 edge in corners.

Both teams resume play on Saturday as Wentworth hosts Eastern Nazarene and Lesley is at Regis.
