Leopard Soccer Teams Honored by the NSCAA

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Both the 2014 Wentworth Institute of Technology's men's and women's soccer teams have been recognized for their success off the field as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced its NSCAA Team Academic Awards for the 2014-15 academic year.

A total of 859 soccer teams (306 men, 553 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, making them eligible for the award. In addition, Wentworth was one of 211 schools which had both their men's and women's programs recognized. The Leopard men's soccer team posted a team GPA of 3.38 last year and their female counterparts had a cumulative GPA of 3.35. This marks the first season the men's program has been honored, while the women's program was honored last season as well as in 2003 and 2011.

Wentworth's men's soccer team finished the 2014 season with a 4-8-5 record and narrowly missed the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament. However, this season the Black & Gold at 6-2 and are presently ranked sixth in the NSCAA NCAA Division III New England Poll.

In 2014 the Leopard women's soccer team finished 9-9-4 and advanced to the CCC finals for the first time since the 2003 season. In the finals, Wentworth tied top-seeded Roger Williams, 1-1, before losing in penalty kicks, 4-1. The Leopards also earned their first trip to the ECAC Tournament since 2005. This season the Black & Gold are off to a 5-2-1 start.

Both teams host Gordon in CCC play on Saturday afternoon.
