Martins Powers Men's Soccer Into ECAC Semifinals

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Noah Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.) scored a pair of goals and assisted on another as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the 2015 ECAC Division III New England Men's Soccer Tournament with a 4-2 win over Norwich.

With the win the second-seeded Leopards (15-5-0) tie the program's single season record for wins and will play on Saturday against an opponent to be determined. The Cadets finish their season with a 12-8-1 record.

Norwich jumped on the board first when junior Jacob Zimmerman (Litchfield, N.H.) tallied his 12th marker of the season. Junior Moab Schiers (South Weber, Utah set up Zimmerman with a pass to the right side where Zimmerman buried the shot inside the upper left corner.

The game remained 1-0 in the Cadets' favor until Martins scored his first of the game a little over 31 minutes later when he fire a shot from the left side which found the upper right corner at 38:27.

Wentworth took a 2-1 lead at 51:44 when junior Alec Watkinson (Merrimack, N.H.) scored off a feed from sophomore Emmett Basaca (San Diego, Calif.). Basaca passed to Watkinson outside the box, who dribbled through and put a shot home to the right. Less than four minutes later Martins came down the left side and fed a pass to senior Alberto Benhamu (Caracas, Venezuela), whose shot beat freshman keeper Stefan Skoff (San Jose, Calif.) to the right side.

Norwich cut the lead to 3-2 at the 74:18 mark when freshman Ethan Melia (Shrewsbury, Mass.) sent a pass across the box to sophomore Chase Hainey (Fryeburg, Maine), who beat freshman keeper Matthew Sekerak (Winthrop, Maine) to the left side.

The Leopards clinched the win with 3:35 remaining when sophomore Gaston Cetrangolo (Easton, Mass.) slid a pass from the middle to the left side to Martis, who notched his second goal of the game and ninth of the season when his shot went inside the left post.

Sekerak made three saves in the win while Skoff made four saves in defeat. Wentworth had a 21-14 advantage on shots and each team took two corner kicks.
