Women's Lacrosse Opens Conference Play at Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team (0-5) opened up Commonwealth Coast Conference play Wednesday, visiting Endicott (3-5). The hosts took the contest by a 24-1 score.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Gulls rattled off 13 goals in the first quarter, with three off the stick of senior Alex Palermo (Reading, Mass.), to take a 13-0 lead after the first frame.
  • Endicott added two goals from freshman Clare Wendell (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) just prior to the midway point of the second quarter. The Gulls scored twice more to take a 17-0 lead into the break.
  • The hosts found twine five times in the third quarter, extending their lead to 22-0.
  • Wentworth broke the shutout at the 12:47 mark of the fourth frame as senior Helen Hamblett (East Boothbay, Maine) scored to mark a 22-1 score. The Gulls scored twice before the end of the contest, giving them a 24-1 conference victory.
  • In between the pipes, sophomore Lily Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J.) made a save while freshman Taytum Shanahan (Bozeman, Montana) made five stops in relief.
  • Sophomore Shayleah Gunning-Lavoie (Laconia, N.H.) scooped up a game-high four ground balls. Freshman Maggie McCann (North Grafton, Mass.) won a team-high four draw controls.
