Western New England Tops Women's Lacrosse

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Behind five goals from senior Kylie Buchanan (Westfield, Mass.), the Western New England Golden Bears women's lacrosse team topped the Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 16-2 score in a conference date Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Golden Bears opened the scoring at the 13:18 mark and scored five goals to the 9:14 mark, with three coming from Buchanan, to take a 5-0 lead in the first quarter. Wentworth answered as a goal from sophomore Shayleah Gunning-Lavoie (Laconia, N.H.) with 8:52 remaining in the quarter marked a 5-1 score. WNE scored three goals, with the last coming from Buchanan, to take an 8-1 lead after one quarter of action.
  • After Buchanan opened the scoring in the second quarter, WNE scored four more goals to take a 13-1 lead into the break.
  • The hosts scored two goals to bring the score to 15-1 by the conclusion of the third quarter.
  • After WNE scored at the 9:40 mark of the fourth quarter, sophomore Jenny Montville (Plainville, Mass.) scored with six seconds remaining to mark a 16-2 final score.
  • Montville (5) and Gunning-Lavoie (3) led the Leopards in ground ball pickups while sophomore Lily Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J.) made 13 saves in goal.
