DUDLEY, Mass. – Continuing their Commonwealth Coast Conference stretch, the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team (0-10, 0-6 CCC) visited the Nichols Bison (9-5, 1-5 CCC) Tuesday evening. The Bison took the final score by a 20-5 tally.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Sophomore Hadley Houghton (Madison, Conn.) potted the first goal of the game for the hosts 1:50 into the night, giving the Bison a 1-0 edge. The Bison rattled off the next five goals, with the fifth again from Houghton, before senior Helen Hamblett (East Boothbay, Maine) disrupted the run with a goal for the Leopards 13 seconds after Houghton's tally. Nichols scored six straight, including two from senior Mackenzie Doran (Wolfeboro, N.H.), to hold a 12-1 lead after the first quarter.
  • Houghton opened a three-goal run for the Bison across 4:04 before Hamblett struck for her second of the game at the 4:58 mark, marking a 15-2 score. Doran scored once more just over two minutes later to give the Bison a 16-2 advantage at the break.
  • After two goals for the Bison started the third quarter, freshman Maggie McCann (North Grafton, Mass.) found the twine at the 9:14 mark to cut the deficit to 18-3.
  • Two goals for the Bison in a span of 3:29 expanded Nichols' lead to 20-3 before Wentworth struck twice themselves. First, McCann notched her second of the game at the 4:12 mark of the quarter on a free position shot with the man-advantage. Senior Celi Lopez (Lowell, Mass.) scored for the Leopards with 1:46 to play to mark a 20-5 final score.
  • Sophomore Lily Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J.) made 11 saves between the pipes for Wentworth.

SERIES NOTES:

  • The Leopards have won three of the last five matchups between the two teams.
