  • Wentworth scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to open the game with a 2-0 lead. Freshman Christian Peruzzi (Plymouth, Mass.) hit a one-out single and went to second on a graduate student Dillon Koster (Woburn, Mass.) single. Both players moved up 90 feet on a Desjardins groundout and both came in to score on a junior Kyle O'Neill (Haverhill, Mass.) single.
  • The Leopards added two more in the second inning, thanks to a two-run double from Peruzzi. Junior Nolan Freeman (Braintree, Mass.) drew a one-out walk and went to third on a senior Aidan French (Chicago, Ill.) single. French went to second on a wild pitch and both runners scored on Peruzzi's double.
  • French hit a one-out double in the fourth and came around to score on Peruzzi's second double of the day. Koster singled in Peruzzi and stole second on a strikeout. He came around to score on an O'Neill RBI single, making it 7-0.
  • Gordon got on the board in the fifth inning on a two-run single by freshman Dalton Cody (Barre, Vt.) and he also drove in a run with a groundout in the seventh.
  • Sophomore Brandon Sullivan (Foxboro, Mass.) picked up his first career win (1-2) as he allowed two runs on six hits and struck out eight in six innings of work. Offensively, Peruzzi was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI, Koster was 3-for-4 with an RBI, O'Neill was 2-for-4 with three RBI, and French was 2-for-4.

GAME TWO:  Wentworth 5, Gordon 4

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Wentworth Batting Leaders:  Nolan McManus (2-for-4, 2 RBI); Aidan French (1-for-4, HR, 1 RBI); Kyle Desjardins (1-for-5, GW RBI)
Wentworth Pitching Leaders:  Brodi Farinas (6 IP, 1 R, 5 H, 6 K); Jon Campbell ((W, 1-0), 3 IP, 3 R (2 earned), 2 K)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Gordon took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Cody led off with a triple and eventually came home on a delayed steal. The lead would not last long, however, as French led off the bottom of the inning with his first home run of the season.
  • Wentworth scored twice in the second to take a 3-1 lead. With one out, freshman Michael Petit (Sandwich, Mass.) reached on an error and went to second when junior Matt Masciadrelli (Westfield, Mass.) singled with two outs. Both runners came around to score on a junior Nolan McManus (Milton, Mass.) triple.
  • The Leopards held a two-run lead until the eighth inning when Gordon scored three times to take a 4-3 lead. Cody led off with a single and went to second when graduate student Connor Hartman (Bethel, Conn.) reached on an error. Both came home on sophomore Shane Demers' (Sandy Hook, Conn.) three-run home run.
  • Koster hit a one-out infield single in the bottom of the inning and, with two outs, stole second and moved to third on an error. O'Neill and Petit drew back-to-back walks to load the bases and Freeman came on as a pinch hitter and tied the score when he was hit by a pitch to bring in Koster. However, a strikeout ended the inning with the bases still loaded.
  • After sophomore Jon Campbell (Snohomish, Wash.) set down the side in the top of the ninth, McManus led off the bottom of the ninth with a double. French was intentionally walked and both he and pinch runner Jacob Knowles (Concord, N.H.) moved up 90 feet on a sacrifice bunt from Peruzzi. Koster was intentionally walked to load the bases, setting the stage for Desjardins' heroics.
  • Campbell picked up his first collegiate win in relief, going three innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and struck out two. Freshman Brodi Farinas (Lewiston, Maine) pitched the first six innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out six.
