Baseball Battles Endicott in CCC Doubleheader

BEVERLY, Mass. – In its final Commonwealth Coast Conference contests of the season, the Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team dropped a CCC doubleheader to Endicott. The Gulls took the opener, 11-1, and prevailed, 13-3, in the nightcap.


GAME ONE:  Endicott 11, Wentworth 1

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Endicott scored seven times in the first inning, which included a pair of two-run doubles and a two-run home run.
  • Wentworth cut the deficit to 7-1 in the second inning as, with one out, junior Kyle O'Neill reached on an error. After a strikeout, junior Matt Bishop (Boston, N.Y.) delivered a double which scored O'Neill.
  • The sixth inning saw Endicott score four more times, with two of those runs coming on a two-run double.
  • Sophomore Brandon Sullivan (Quincy, Mass.) took the loss (1-3) for Wentworth, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits and added to his team leading strikeout total (35) with five. Sullivan is carrying a strikeout per nine inning average of 12.60.

 

GAME TWO:  Endicott 11, Wentworth 1

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Endicott took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a three-run home run. An inning later the Gulls added three to their lead with a two-run home run and an RBI single.
  • Wentworth made it a 6-1 game in the top of the third inning. Junior Nolan McManus (Milton, Mass.) led off with a double and went to third when senior Aidan French (Chicago, Ill.) singles. Junior Nolan Freeman reached on a fielder's choice, which allowed McManus to score. Freeman reached second and third on wild pitches, however, a strikeout ended the inning.
  • The bottom of the fourth saw the Gulls take a 9-1 lead on a three-run home run, while in the top of the fifth, junior Kyle Desjardins (North Granby, Conn.) lifted a home run to left, making it 9-2.
  • Freshman Christian Peruzzi (Plymouth, Mass.) led off the sixth with a single and went to second on a wild pitch. A two-out double from McManus brought him home.
  • Endicott scored four times in the bottom of the sixth on a pair of two-run doubles.
  • Freshman Brodi Farinas (Lewiston, Maine) took the loss (1-2), allowing six runs on five hits and striking out one in two innings. Junior Hunter Thornton (Old Lyme, Conn.) pitched two innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and struck out two.. Sophomore Jon Campbell (Snohomish, Wash.) pitched two innings, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out 1. McManus was 2-for-3 with an RBI.


ALL-TIME SERIES:

  • Today marked the 50th all-time meeting between the two programs, Endicott leads, 41-9.
