CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Garrett Robinson's (Winfield, Ill.) two-goal, two-assist performance led the Massachusetts Institute of Technology men's soccer team (2-3-1) over the Wentworth Institute of Technology (2-5) by a 6-0 score Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Engineers applied pressure early, chunking four shots towards goal, along with being awarded two corner kicks, within the first 15:14 of play. Wentworth got a shot on the board just under five minutes later on a boot from freshman Alex Burnham (Gilmanton IW, N.H.).
  • MIT broke the scoreless tie just 46 seconds after Burnham's shot as Robinson sent a high ball from just under midfield into the box for a try from graduate student John Flynn (Broadlands, Va.) that found the twine at the 20:58 mark.
  • The hosts doubled their lead just 3:04 after Flynn's tally as a cross seam pass from freshman Dilin Meloni (Needham, Mass.) found Robinson's foot across the box with a wide-open net, pushing the advantage to 2-0.
  • Wentworth closed the first half with three shots on goal in a span of 7:37, two coming from senior Jacob Dukeshire (Nashua, N.H.), that were all turned away by freshman Hernando Ardila (Miramar, Fla.)
  • MIT pushed the margin to three goals as a loose ball in the box found the back of the net by freshman Nico Mangiafico (Farmington, Conn.) at the 53:25 mark.
  • The hosts found the twine again shortly after Mangiafico's tally as Robinson notched his second goal of the night at the 55:18 mark, extending MIT's lead to 4-0.
  • MIT clinched their fifth goal of the game at the 66:03 mark as a header by graduate student Peter Novoa (Omaha, Neb.) rippled the twine, pushing the score to 5-0.
  • Senior Zachary Zhang (Bellevue, Wash.) gave MIT their sixth tally of the contest in the 75th minute.
  • Ardila made six saves in the shutout for the Engineers while senior Noah Lawless (Whitefish Bay, Wisc.) made four saves before senior Louis Quintero (Boston, Mass.) made a save in relief for the Leopards.
