Men's Soccer Closes out its Season at Curry

MILTON, Mass. – Junior Lucas Drons (Bellingham, Mass.) scored two goals and added an assist as the Curry College men's soccer team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 4-1, in the regular-season finale.

With the win the Colonels improve to 8-6-3 overall and 3-3-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play. The Leopards conclude their season with a 3-13-1 (1-7-0) mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Drons nearly got the hosts on the board early as his shot in the third minute of play hit the post. In the ninth minute, Wentworth had its first bid with senior Luke Williams (Guilford, Vt.) putting a shot on net.
  • Drons had a pair of shots saved by senior Luis Quintero (Boston, Mass.) before breaking through at the 19:39 mark after a pass from senior JD Santiago (La Plata, Md.).
  • Freshman Dylan Michaud (Hopkinton, Mass.) nearly tied the game in the 25th minute but his shot hit the crossbar. Nearly 10 minutes later, Drons doubled the Colonels' lead with an unassisted marker.
  • The Black & Gold had a pair of corner kicks late in the first half, however, were unable to generate scoring chances on either of them.
  • At the 50:07 mark, senior Adam Pforr (Weymouth, Mass.) made it a 3-0 game when he was set up by Drons. Curry added to its lead at the 53;40 mark when Santiago scored.
  • While Wentworth had chances to get on the board, sophomore Brendan Cunningham made three saves down the stretch to keep the shutout in tact. However, the clean sheet was erased with 1:55 left when a foul in the box led to a penalty kick. Senior Nile Keiller (Bowie, Md.) stepped to the line and converted the kick.
  • Cunningham made four saves for Curry while Quintero and sophomore Tristan McDonough (Bridgewater, Mass.) combined to make four stops. The Colonels had a 16-13 shot advantage while the Leopards had the advantage in corner kicks, 8-6.
