Softball Bows Out in CCC Semifinals versus Roger Williams

BEVERLY, Mass. – In the Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinals Saturday afternoon, the fifth-seeded Roger Williams Hawks' softball team blanked the fourth-seeded Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 4-0 score, ending their end-of-season surge in the double-elimination tournament.

The Black & Gold wrap the 2024 season with an overall mark of 25-19, claiming their third straight 20+ win season along the way, while the Hawks advance to the championship series with a 22-16 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Roger Williams did the damage in the first inning, starting with an RBI single by freshman Shannon Starratt (Lake George, N.Y.) with two runners on that scored one, marking a 1-0 score.
  • The Hawks added to the score later in the frame as a home run by freshman Christina Denovellis (Rocky Hill, Conn.) just past left field with two runners on added three more runs, marking a 4-0 lead.
  • The Leopards had a tough chance to get anything going until the fourth inning, loading the bases on three singles. However, a fly out and foul out ended the threat, with Roger Williams holding on the rest of the way with freshman Keria Quadros (East Providence, R.I.) dominant in the circle, striking out two and only giving up four hits. Sophomore Julie Schriver (Moscow, Pa.) took the loss for the Black & Gold while freshman Kelsey Medalia (Tacoma, Wash.) led offensively with two hits.
