QUINCY, Mass. – Six different players scored goals including sophomore Griffin Price (Allendale, N.J.), sophomore Diego Panayotti (San Pedro Sula, Honduras), and senior Emmett Basaca (San Diego, Calif.) who each also recorded an assist as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer defeated Eastern Nazarene, 6-1, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Leopards improve to 8-7-2 overall and 4-2-2 in CCC play while the Lions fall to 0-15-0 (0-8-0).
The game's first four goals were scored in a span of the opening 12:33, beginning with Price's tally just 32 seconds into the contest. Price took a pass from senior Michael Zendan (Charlotte, N.C.) and went left-to-right to give the Black & Gold a 1-0 lead. The lead would not last long, however, as less than a minute later Eastern Nazarene sophomore Sebastian Arboleda (Barranquilla, Colombia) fired a long-range shot that found the back of the net.
Senior Joe Kalil (Franklin, Mass.) gave Wentworth a 2-1 lead at the 5:51 mark of the opening half as he volleyed in the service of a corner kick from Basaca. The Leopards increased their lead to 3-1 at the 12:33 mark when junior Noah Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.) put home a through ball from Panayotti.
Panayotti opened the second half with a goal of his own as he one-timed a pass from Price into the lower corner of the net. The Leopards increased their lead to 5-1 when Basaca converted a penalty kick at the 54:49 mark. Freshman Alexis Reinoso (Randolph, Mass.) rounded out the scoring when he tallied his first career goal, which came off a cross from sophomore Cameron Pacheco (Woburn, Mass.) at 83:03.
Sophomore Philip Chomicki (Dorchester, Mass.) did not need to make a save over the first 67:09 before giving way to senior Noah Scanlon (Millington, N.J.), who also didn't need to make a save in 22:51. Sophomore Victor Mendoza (Cathedral, Calif.) made seven saves over the first 56:26. Freshman Tim Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) made five saves in the last 33:34. Wentworth had a 33-3 shot advantage and a 9-2 edge on corner kicks.
Wentworth closes out the regular season on Tuesday night with a home game against Curry.
