Women's Basketball Falls to Suffolk

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore forward Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) scored 10 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and blocked five shots to pace a balanced attack as the Suffolk women's basketball team remained undefeated with a 67-40 win over Wentworth in a non-conference contest played at Tansey Gymnasium.

The two teams traded baskets over the course of the first 2:16, however, the Rams would outscore the Leopards, 16-0, over the next 11 minutes to take an 18-2 lead. Wentworth ended its scoring drought with a junior guard Ashley Conway (Danvers, Mass.) basket with 6:43 left and followed it up with a pair of freshman guard Anne Harris (Germantown, Md.) free throws.

Suffolk scored the next four points to push the lead back to 16 and would lead by as many as 19 (30-11) late in the half before taking a 30-13 lead into the locker room.

Wentworth opened the second half with a 9-4 spurt, thanks in part to a Conway three pointer, and trailed by 12 (34-22) with 15:26 left. However, Suffolk went on a 13-1 run to extend its lead to 24, putting distance between the Rams and the hosts.

Junior guard Lindsay Rogers (Gloucester, Mass.) scored nine points, grabbed six rebounds, and had three steals, while freshman guard Andrea Suffredini (Milford, Mass.) and sophomore forward Jessica Bard (Harleysville, Pa.) scored eight points apiece. Suffredini also had seven rebounds and a pair of steals. The Rams, who held the Leopards to 24.1 percent shooting, had a 58-47 rebounding edge.

Conway had 10 points and four assists for Wentworth while sophomore forward Kendra Kerr (Marshfield, Mass.) added 10 points of her own to go along with nine rebounds. Junior Morgan Furman (Falmouth, Maine) had a game-high 11 rebounds.

With the win Suffolk improves to 4-0 and hosts Roger Williams Monday night. Wentworth falls to 0-3 and is at Simmons that same night.
