Women's Basketball Falls to Eastern Nazarene

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior forward Alexis Malloy (Washington, D.C.) scored a game-high 15 points to lead four double-digit scorers as the Eastern Nazarene women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 73-44 win over Wentworth in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Tansey Gymnasium.

The Lions took the lead off the opening tip when Malloy drained a 3-pointer and would build their lead to as many as 12 with 8:37 left on a jumper from junior guard Mel Green (Annapolis, Md.). Wentworth scored the next five points, capped off by a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Paige Newcomb (Topsfield, Mass.) to cut the lead to 22-15 with 6:20 left in the half, but a 9-0 Eastern Nazarene run put the visitors ahead, 31-15, with 3:02 left in the half.

The Leopards brought the lead down to a dozen on two sophomore forward Kendra Kerr (Marshfield, Mass.) free throws and a basket by Newcomb, but a 3-pointer from freshman guard Kori Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) and a layup by Malloy at the end of the half gave the Lions a 36-19 lead at the break.

Eastern Nazarene upped its lead to as many as 19 on three occasions, including when sophomore guard Dianna Bonds (Marietta, Ga.) hit two free throws with 11:50 left, but Wentworth would answer with six straight points to cut the lead to 13 with 7:38 left.

After a sophomore guard Danielle Miranda (Westbrook, Maine) 3-pointer with 4:48 remaining made it a 14-point game, the Lions used a 10-0 run to distance themselves from the hosts.

Junior forward Shardae Brown (Waterbury, Conn.) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Carradine had 12 points and seven assists. Sorensen rounded out Eastern Nazarene's double-digit scorers with 10 points, to go along with five assists.

Kerr led Wentworth with 14 points, eight rebounds, and five steals, while sophomore forward Ashley Stowe (Voluntown, Conn.) chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.

With the win the Lions improve to 8-9 overall and 5-5 in CCC play. Wentworth falls to 1-17 (1-10). Both teams are in action on Tuesday night as Eastern Nazarene is at Nichols and the Leopards host Endicott.
