Women's Basketball Falls at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Aarika Ritchie (Lee, Maine) had 14 points and four assists and teammates Jil Vaughan (Wareham, Mass.) and Rachael Mack (Augusta, Maine) both had double-doubles in scoring and rebounding to power the 23rd-ranked Colby College women's basketball team to a 72-39 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Ritchie, who also had four steals, was 5-for-8 from the field. Meanwhile, Vaughan and Mack both finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Vaughan had five blocked shots, while Mack had five steals and four assists. Mack, who went over 1,000 career points and 100 blocked shots on Monday, surpassed 100 career steals Wednesday.

Jacky McLaughlin (Medfield, Mass.) and Kelly Potvin (Sherborn, Mass.) each had nine points. Gabe Donahue (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) added eight points and Jen Nale (Waterville, Maine) chipped in six.

Wentworth (0-9) scored the first basket of the game, but Colby (8-1) used a 17-0 run after that to take control. The Mules led 45-23 at halftime.

Kendra Kerr (Marshfield, Mass.) led Wentworth with 14 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Biggar (Beverly, Mass.) added eight points and Christine Henry (Tewksbury, Mass.) had seven, while junior guard Ashley Conway (Danvers, Mass.) dished out six assists. The Mules had a 45-22 rebound advantage and had 18 steals.

The Leopards resume Commonwealth Coast Conference play Saturday afternoon when they host Nichols at 1:00 p.m.
