Eastern Nazarene Pulls Away From Leopards in Second Half

QUINCY, Mass. – Junior guard Ace Carradine (Honolulu, Hawaii) recorded game highs of 16 points and seven assists to help pace the Eastern Nazarene women's basketball team to a 52-30 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at the Lahue Center.

The visiting Leopards opened the game on an 8-2 run with junior guard Jordan Biggar (Beverly, Mass.) hitting a basket with 14:15 left to give Wentworth a six-point margin. Eastern Nazarene countered with a 7-0 run of its own over the next three minutes and took a 9-8 lead on a sophomore forward Abbie Tonello (Plymouth, Mass.) basket. The Lions held a three-point advantage before junior forward Morgan Furman (Falmouth, Mass.) hit a pair of free throws with 9:42 left to trim the lead to one (11-10).

Carradine scored nine of her team's 10 points – all by way of the three pointer – in a 10-0 run that gave the hosts a 21-10 lead with 5:02 left in the half and Eastern Nazarene led by 13 (28-15) at the break.

The Lions increased their lead to as many as 16 with 11:27 left when Carradine hit a layup, but sophomore forward Kendra Kerr (Marshfield, Mass.) scored Wentworth's next five points and brought the Leopards to within 11 with 8:56 left. However, Eastern Nazarene went on a 9-0 run – capped by a freshman guard Kori Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) long-range shot – over the next 3:40 and took a 20-point lead with 5:17 remaining.

In addition to Carradine's 16 points, Sorensen added 10 points and junior Shandae Brown (Waterbury, Conn.) had eight points. Junior guard Mel Green grabbed eight rebounds for the Lions. Eastern Nazarene won the battle of the boards by a 51-33 margin and held the Leopards to 25 percent shooting from the floor.

Kerr paced the Leopards with 11 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Junior guard Ashley Conway (Danvers, Mass.) had 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists, while Furman grabbed seven rebounds.

With the win, Eastern Nazarene's first over Wentworth in the last eight meetings between the two schools, the Lions improve to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in CCC play. Eastern Nazarene wraps up first semester play on Monday with a game at Brandeis. Wentworth falls to 0-6 (0-2) and hosts St. Joseph (Conn.) on Wednesday.
