Salve Regina Cruises Past Women's Basketball

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior forward Lindsay Shorey (Ashland, Mass.) scored 16 points to help pace the Salve Regina women's basketball team to its third straight victory with a 58-31 triumph over Wentworth in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Tansey Gym.

The Seahawks led from wire to wire, starting out by scoring the game's first six points. The Leopards eventually closed the gap to three with 16:11 left on a sophomore Paige Newcomb (Topsfield, Mass.) 3-pointer. However, Salve Regina countered with a 10-0 run and extended the lead to 13 on a steal and layup by freshman Laurie Ann Dinan (Monterey, Mass.).

Trailing by 13 with 8:01 left in the frame, the Black & Gold got a basket by sophomore forward Kendra Kerr (Marshfield, Mass.) and a 3-pointer from junior guard Jordan Biggar (Beverly, Mass.) to cut the lead to 24-16 with 6:45 left, but Salve Regina countered with the next six points, capped off by a 3-point play from sophomore guard Lisa Bucci (Irvington,N.Y.), and led 30-16 before taking a 34-18 lead into the locker room.

Salve Regina opened the second half outscoring the hosts 7-0 over the first 5:42 of the second half and held Wentworth to 5-for-22 shooting from the floor in the second half.

Sophomore forward Marissa Pendergast (Medfield, Mass.) had a double-double for the Seahawks, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while adding three assists and two steals.

Biggar led the Leopards with 13 points and two steals, while Kerr had six points and eight rebounds and sophomore forward Ashley Stowe (Voluntown, Conn.) had a team-high nine rebounds.

With the win Salve Regina improves to 14-8 overall and 11-4 in CCC play. The Seahawks host Gordon on Saturday. Wentworth falls to 1-21 (1-14) and is at Roger Williams on Saturday.
