First Half Run Lifts Wittenberg Past Women's Lacrosse

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Senior Victoria Zysik (Perrysburg, Ohio) scored four goals and assisted on three others and sophomore Gabby Zysik (Perrysburg, Ohio) tallied four goals as the Wittenberg women's lacrosse team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 21-4, Wednesday afternoon.

With the Tigers improve to 2-3 while the Leopards fall to 0-2.

After Victoria Zysik gave Wittenberg a 1-0 lead 1:51 into the contest, Wentworth scored twice in a span of 23 seconds as junior Leah Cummins (Plymouth, Mass.) and freshman Emily Rogers (Pembroke, Mass.) gave the Leopards a 2-1 lead. Those were the only goals of the first half for the Black & Gold as Wittenberg went on a 13-0 run to close out the first half and take a 14-2 halftime lead.

Wentworth opened the second half scoring the first two goals as junior Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) scored from sophomore Shannon Stutz (Littleton, Mass.) 2:32 into the frame and Sturtz added a goal with 23:47 left. The Tigers scored the final seven goals to round out the scoring.

Sturtz finished with a gal and an assist while Rogers, in addition to scoring a goal, had four groundballs. Paradis finished with a goal and four draw controls and Cummins had a goal and a pair of caused turnovers.

Junior Liz Gunning (Northport, N.Y.) made eight saves while freshman Lily Kuhns (Gloucester, Mass.) had 20 stops.

Wentworth plays Kenyon on Friday.
