WENHAM, Mass. – Despite a six-goal performance from junior Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.), the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team fell to Gordon College 19-14 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at Brigham Complex.
The Leopards drop to 6-6 this season and 1-4 against league opponents, while the Fighting Scots improve to 7-7 overall and 4-1 in league play.
Wentworth erased a three-goal deficit to even the score 3-3 with 13:33 left in the first half on two goals from freshman Emily Rogers (Pembroke, Mass.) and one from Paradis. Just over two minutes later, Paradis sent one home by herself, giving Wentworth its first lead of the game, 4-3. Gordon junior Olivia McCarrick (Glen Burnie, Md.) pulled the hosts back even at 4-4, and teamed up with junior Paige Thompson (West Chester, Pa.) to regain the lead, this time for good. McCarrick snuck in her third of the game in between two goals from junior Leah Cummins (Plymouth, Mass.), as Gordon carried a 7-6 advantage heading into halftime.
The Fighting Scots outscored Wentworth 12-8 in the second frame, despite the Leopards owning a 14-6 advantage in draw controls. The Leopards score three goals over the final 2:40 of play, but the gap proved too large to overcome, as freshman Lena Larson (Fredricksburg, Va.) netted a free position shot with 46 seconds left in the final goal for Gordon.
Four Leopards reached multi-goal performances, led by Paradis with six goals and her seventh straight hat trick. Rogers, Cummins and sophomore Marissa Nelson (Cranston, R.I.) followed with a pair of goals apiece, while sophomore Kaitlyn Darveau (South China, Maine) and junior Jenna Tetreau (Dudley, Mass.) found the back of the net once for Wentworth.
Gordon freshman keeper Kaitlyn Ober (Jurupa Valley, Calif.) earned the win in 41:32 minutes of action, and collected nine saves, while classmate Rebecca Resnick (Monroe, Conn.) made one stop in 18:28 of relief. Wentworth Freshman Lily Kuhns (Gloucester, Mass.) suffered the loss in the cage for Wentworth, despite 13 saves, her third straight game in double digits.
Wentworth resumes conference play on Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. tilt at Endicott.
