Women's Lacrosse Rolls To 19-11 Win Over Mass. Maritime

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Emily Rogers (Pembroke, Mas.) scored seven goals to propel the Wentworth women's lacrosse team to their second straight win over Mass. Maritime Academy, 19-11, Thursday evening at Sweeney Field. The Leopards improve to 3-4 this season, while the Buccaneers drop to 4-3.

The Leopards wasted little time getting on the board to start, as Rogers kicked off the offensive surge with a goal from junior Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) 16 seconds into the contest. Paradis and Rogers traded back-to-back goals before senior Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) broke open the scoring for Mass. Maritime in the 24th minute. Freshman Casey Sullivan (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) and sophomore Cammi Balentine (Haverhill, Mass.) equalized the score 3-3, but Wentworth responded with a 6-4 run to lead 9-7 at the half.

The Leopard defense kept Mass. Maritime at bay to start the second stanza, while Paradis and Rogers lengthened the gap by five goals, 12-7 with 24:34 left in regulation. Sullivan answered with consecutive goals for the Buccaneers, including a man-up goal from Hunt, but Wentworth put away two unanswered goals from Rogers and junior Leah Cummins (Plymouth, Mass.). Mass. Maritime scored two more goals, both from Sullivan, but the Leopard gap proved to be insurmountable, as the home team ran away with the 19-11 victory.

Paradis followed Rogers' lead with five goals, three assists, and a game-high 14 draws, while sophomore Kaitlyn Darveau (South China, Maine) and Cummins rounded out double-digit scoring with two goals apiece. Senior Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season, while Cummins held down the defense with seven caused turnovers.

Freshman Lily Kuhns (Gloucester, Mass.) improves to 2-3 this season with five stops in the victory, while senior goalkeeper Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) made 24 saves in a strong performance in net for Mass. Maritime.

Wentworth continues non-conference action on Saturday with a 12:00 pm tilt at Becker.
