LEICESTER, Mass. – For the first time since 2014, the Wentworth women's lacrosse team ran its win streak to three with a 21-4 victory over Becker College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Leopards improve to 4-4 overall, while the Hawks drop to 0-5 this season.
Despite Hawks' sophomore Samantha Carter (Boothbay Harbor, Maine) netting the first goal of the game – and finishing with a hat trick overall – the Leopards scored nine straight goals to lead by eight with 11:31 left in the half. Freshman Emily Rogers (Pembroke, Mass.) broke open the scoring just over a minute after Carter's goal, while five different Leopards found the back of the net in the stretch.
Becker added two goals before the halftime buzzer sounded, another by Carter and an unassisted marker from sophomore Cassandra Nelson (Exeter, N.H.), but a free position goal from junior Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) sent the game into running time with 7:16 left. Wentworth kept the clock running until the end of regulation, while the defense held Becker to just a single goal in the second half, another unassisted tally from Carter.
Six Leopards finished with multi-goal performances, led by Paradis with four goals and two assists. Junior Jenna Tetreau (Dudley, Mass.) and seniors Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass.) and Courtney McCormick (Hanson, Mass.) each finished with a hat-trick, while juniors Caitlin McCormick (Hanson, Mass.) and Leah Cummins (Plymouth, Mass.) added a pair of goals in the victory. Rogers, Sophomore Julie Dam (Milford, Mass.), freshman Marissa Nelson (Cranston, R.I.), and sophomore Kaitlyn Darveau (South China, Maine) rounded out the scoring for Wentworth with one goal apiece.
Tetreau also finished with six ground balls next to Carter's game high of seven, while Nelson caused a game-best three turnovers.
Junior Liz Gunning (Northport, N.Y.) earned her second win in the cage for Wentworth, and collected five saves in the full 60 minutes played, while Becker junior keeper Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine) made 15 saves in the effort.
Wentworth returns to conference action on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. game at Western New England.
