BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Jackie McCullough's (Schenectady, N.Y.) goal with 25:11 left in regulation knotted the score at 2-all as Wentworth and Clark played to a season-opening draw in non-conference action on Sweeney Field.
Clark got on the board first as junior Rose Koerner (Ware, Mass.) fed a pass to classmate Lucia Pantuosco (Somers, Conn.), who snuck a shot inside the top left corner at the 16:28 mark.
Holding a 10-4 shot advantage through 45:00 of play the Cougars would maintain the lead until freshman Taylor Van Zile (Pine Branch, N.J.) hit a one-timer to the left side off a pass from senior Danielle Weiler (Becket, Mass.) just 1:17 into the second half.
The Cougars took a 2-1 lead at the 60:26 mark when Pantuosco capitalized on a turnover at midfield and fed freshman Liz Cumberbatch (Austin, Texas), who put home a shot to the left side. The lead held until Leopard junior Ashley Cook (San Diego, Calif.) fed a pass across the box to McCullough, who would tie the game 4:23 later.
Both teams had chances to go ahead in the late stages of regulation, with Wentworth sophomore Olivia Moore (Salem, Conn.) giving the hosts the best chance as she had a wide open chance with 13 seconds left, however, Clark freshman Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.) made a key stop.
The first overtime saw just one shot between the two teams as Wentworth senior Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, Mass.) stopped Pantuosco's bid for a game-winning tally with under a minute left.
In the second extra session the Cougars had three chances in succession, as a first attempt was saved by Gardner, a second was blocked, and the third sailed wide of the net.
Gardner made 13 saves for the Leopards while Paolini turned aside four shots. Clark held a 28-14 shot advantage for the game and a 4-3 edge on corner kicks, including two in the second overtime.
Wentworth travels to Emerson on Wednesday while Clark is back in action tomorrow, hosting Brandeis.
