Gardner Earns CCC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior keeper Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, Mass.) of the Wentworth women's soccer team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the period of September 17-23.

Despite a 1-2 record the Leopards' three games last week, Gardner had a solid week in goal as she posted a 1.67 goals against average, had a .904 save percentage, and posted her second shutout of the season.

Gardner turned aside a career-high 20 shots in a 1-0 loss at Emmanuel last Monday night and made 19 stops in a 1-0 win over CCC foe Curry on Saturday. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Black & Gold. She also made eight saves in a 4-0 loss to UMass Dartmouth on Thursday afternoon.

Playing 727:43 of a possible 740:00, Gardner has a 2-5-1 record with a 1.86 goals against average and has made 85 saves for an average of 10.6 stops per contest. The Leopards look to win their second in a rown when they host WPI on Tuesday night at Sweeney Field.
