BOSTON, Mass. – Five different players tallied goals while senior Elizabeth Somma (Windham, Maine) and junior Ashley Cook (San Diego, Calif.) had a pair of assists apiece as the Wentworth women's soccer team posted its highest goal output of the season in a 5-1 win over Framingham State in non-conference action at Sweeney Field.
At the 11:00 mark sophomore Olivia Moore (Salem, Conn.) put the Leopards on the board when she headed in a Cook corner kick to the right side. Senior Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, Mass.) gave the hosts a 2-0 lead nearly nine minutes later when she took a pass across the box from Somma and put home a shot to the left side.
The Rams cut the Wentworth lead to 2-1 exactly two minutes later when sophomore Christina Buonopane (Stoneham, Mass.) fired a shot from 40 yards out that found the upper middle of the Leopard goal. Wentworth rounded out the first half scoring when sophomore Alexandrea Banks (Ellington, Conn.) took a feed from Cook put in a shot from 35 yards out which was initially saved by Framingham State sophomore McKenzie Vershon (Chicopee, Mass.), but found the back of the net.
Sophomore Tori Armishaw (Scarborough, Maine) fed a long, cross-field pass to senior Molly Newcomb (Marshfield, Mass.), who gave Wentworth a 4-1 lead at 54:54 before Armishaw closed out the scoring off a pass from Somma with 11:20 remaining in the contest.
Freshman Miranda Stuckey (Lafayette, Ind.) made three saves in 45 minutes of work. Gardner, who played the first 31 minutes of the contest in the field before moving to keeper in the second half, made eight stops. Vershon made seven saves for the Rams. Framingham State held a 20-18 shot advantage and a 4-3 corner kick advantage.
