Women's Soccer Grabs Number Five Seed in CCC Tournament

BOSTON, Mass. – Making its sixth straight appearance in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament, the defending conference champion Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team hits the road to begin its title defense as the fifth-seeded Leopards (6-10-1) travel to fourth-seeded Gordon (9-4-2) for a quarterfinal round matchup on Saturday, October 28, in Wenham, Mass, beginning at Noon.

Wentworth earns the number five seed after posting a 4-4-2 (14 points) record in league play. The Leopards have won their last two games to put themselves in the middle of the league standings. Gordon, which in the previous two seasons has advanced to the conference championship game as a lower seed, including as the number eight seed a season ago, locked up the number four spot with a 6-2-1 (19 points) league mark.

Endicott earned the top seed as the Gulls posted an 8-0-1 mark (25 points) in league play and sit at 12-4-1 overall. The Gulls will host eighth-seeded Curry (8-8-3, 1-6-2) on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Roger Williams, which had been the tournament's top seed in each of the last three seasons, is the number two seed at 11-7-2 overall and 7-1-1 in league play. The Hawks will host Salve Regina (5-10-3, 2-5-2) at 11:00 a.m. Third-seeded Western New England (9-7-2, 7-2-0) hosts sixth-seeded University of New England (8-8-2, 3-5-1) at 1:30 p.m.

The four winners advance to Wednesday's (November 1) semifinal round, with the two semifinal victors vying for the CCC title and an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday, November 4.

Saturday's meeting will be the 26th meeting between Wentworth and Gordon with the Fighting Scots holding a 15-8-2 series advantage. The Leopards are 3-0-2 in the last five meetings between the two teams, including when they played to a 0-0 tie on September 23. This marks the third straight season the teams will battle in the CCC Tournament with Wentworth winning its first CCC title a season ago with a 4-0 victory and Gordon advancing on penalty kicks in the semifinals of the 2015 tournament after a scoreless 110 minutes. In four all-time CCC Tournament games between the two teams, Gordon has a 2-1-1 edge.
