Gordon Edges Women's Soccer in CCC Quarterfinals

WENHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Lexi Potter's (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) goal just 1:37 into the second half snapped a 1-all tie and lifted the Gordon College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in the quarterfinal round of the 2017 Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament.

With the win the Fighting Scots improve to 10-4-2 on the season and travel to top-seeded Endicott on Wednesday for a semifinal round matchup. The Leopards see their season come to an end with a 6-11-1 mark. It was the seventh one-goal loss for Wentworth this season.

Gordon took a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute as sophomore Devin Lacroix (Candia, N.H.) carried the ball in and took a shot which initially hit the bottom of the crossbar, however caromed down and over the line.

Despite being outshot 9-5 in the first half, Wentworth tied the game at the 39:02 mark as freshman Molly Donahue took a shot from 30 yards out which found the left side of the net. In the 42nd minute, Wentworth nearly took a 2-1 lead, however, senior Emily Richard's (Fremont, N.H.) bid was saved by sophomore Kayli Denty (Marshfield, Mass.).

Potter's goal at 46:37 came after Lacroix fed her a ball and she took a shot from the right side of the box which went inside the left post. With time winding down, sophomore Sidney Brogan (Los Angeles, Calif.) gave the Black & Gold a chance to tie the game, however, Denti made a save with 22 ticks left.

Denti finished with six saves while junior Christie Fleming (Braintree, Mass.) made nine saves. Gordon had advantages in shots (19-9) and corner kicks (10-0).
