BOSTON, Mass. – Three members of the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team were honored by the Commonwealth Coast Conference as the league announced its all-conference teams and major award winners on Friday.
Senior forward Emily Richard (Fremont, N.H.) earned a spot on the league's first team, while freshman midfielder Molly Donahue (Quincy, Mass.) and senior defender Heather MacDougall (Exeter, N.H.) were each named to the second team. Additionally, MacDougall was honored as the CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The CCC Offensive Player of the Year in 2016, Richard earns her third straight all-conference honor as she was a second team selection as a sophomore and first team as a junior. Playing in all 17 games, the team's co-captain scored three goals and assisted on five others for 11 points. One of her three goals was a game-winning tally, coming against the University of New England on October 7. For her career she has started in 78 of 82 games, scoring 18 goals and a program-best 26 assists for 62 points. In addition to being the program's all-time assist leader, she ranks second in games started, is tied for fourth in games played, and is fifth in games played.
Donahue patrolled the midfield for the Black & Gold during her rookie campaign, helping the Leopards both offensively and defensively, often setting up possessions for Wentworth. Starting 15 of the 16 games in which she played, she scored a goal and assisted on three others for five points which tied her for most points by a freshman on this year's team.
A four-year starter and defensive stalwart, MacDougall earns the first all-conference nod of her career after helping the Leopards hold the opposition to one or fewer goals on 10 occasions, including three shutouts. She also recorded a pair of assists. For her career, she has started in 71 of the 82 games in which she has played and has five assists to her credit. On Wentworth's all-time list she is tied for fourth in games played and ninth in games started. As impressive as she has been on the pitch during her four seasons, the co-captain has been equally as impressive in the classroom. A Biomedical Engineering major with a grade point average of just over a 3.7, MacDougall is a resident assistant on campus and is a member of the student-athlete advisory council while holding memberships in in the Student Association of Biomedical Sciences, the Phi Sigma Pi national honors fraternity, and the Society of Women Engineers.
Wentworth finished the regular season with a 6-10-1 overall record and a 4-4-1 mark in league play. Seeded fifth in the CCC Tournament, the defending conference champions open their title defense Saturday at Noon at fourth-seeded Gordon.
