Men's Cross Country Fares Well in Final Tune-Up Before Championship Season

BOSTON, Mass. – In its final tune-up before conference and regional championship meets, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's cross country team placed 11th at the Suffolk Invitational. The 8K race was run at Boston's Franklin Park and hosted by Suffolk University.

The Leopards scored 312 points, 22 points out of the top 10 in the 24-team, 278-runner field.

For the fourth straight meet, sophomore Ryan Ballard (Norwalk, Conn.) led the Leopards, as he finished 13th (11 points ), crossing the line with a time of 26:11. Senior William Carpenter (Salisbury, Vt.) placed 76th (63 points) with a time of 27:50. Classmate Jack Chausse (Newport, R.I.) completed the course in a time of 28:10 to place 92nd (74 points). Freshman Jack Newton (Gloucester, Mass.) was 111th (83 points), finishing in a time of 28:43. Freshman Joey Cotta (Scarborough, Maine) completed Wentworth's scoring runners with a 114th-place finish (85 points) after recording a time of 28:49.

Sophomore Evan McIntire (Mansfield, Mass.) finished 122nd (29:06), sophomore Jacob Thomas (Kingston, N.H.) was 128th (29:17), freshman Mark Murphy (Medway, Mass.) placed 148th (29:49). Freshman Hayden Pierce (Jefferson, Mass.) had a time of 30:55 (182nd place), junior Robbie McCue (Weymouth, Mass.) places 237th (34:59), and freshman Matt Murphy (Braintree, Mass.) was 246th (36:23).

Wentworth will vie for its fourth Commonwealth Coast Conference title in two weeks when the Leopards compete in the CCC Championship at Gordon College.
