INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Golden Bears jumped out in front early, scoring three times in the first 3:21, including two goals by Kylie Buchanan (Westfield, Mass.), who tied for the team lead with four goals on the day. The Leopards answered back, however, scoring two goals in a span of 1:02 to pull within one. Senior midfielder Sarah Galan (Colchester, Conn.) and sophomore attack Olivia Murray (Quincy, Mass.) put in the pair for Wentworth, making it a 3-2 game. After Samantha Vitka (Stratford, Conn.) scored one of her three goals to make it 4-2, Galan came back just 48 seconds later with her second of the day to narrow the deficit to one once again. But Western New England closed the quarter out on a 7-0 run, with Reilly Miller (Goshen, N.Y.) and Ally Ferraro (Hamden, Conn.) scoring two each to help give the Golden Bears an 11-3 lead after one.
  • The visitors kept it up in the second quarter, outscoring Wentworth 8-0 in the period. Ferraro and Annabella Arias (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) scored twice each during the quarter, and despite three shots from Wentworth, the Leopards were unable to break through as the home team trailed 19-3 at the half.
  • A pair of early goals in the third extended the lead to 18 for the Golden Bears, with both teams then going several minutes without scoring. The next goal didn't come until 4:42 remaining in the quarter, when Mia Celentano (Hamden, Conn.) scored her second goal of the period, making it a 22-3 score after three.
  • The Golden Bears added two more in the opening minutes of the fourth, and again neither team was able to convert throughout the middle portion of the period. But Murray and senior midfielder Emily Rogers (Pembroke, Mass.) were able to score a pair of late goals for the Leopards, who dropped a 25-5 decision to the Golden Bears.
