Women's Lacrosse Falls to Endicott in Regular Season Finale

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team dropped the final game of the regular season, as the Leopards fell to Endicott College 20-2 at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Endicott struck quickly in the first, scoring three goals in the first 3:04 of the game. Morgan Pike (Shapleigh, Maine), who scored three on the day, got it started with a goal 12 seconds in. Just 23 seconds later, Kiana Napolitano (Revere, Mass.) made it a 2-0 lead, and after a third goal two minutes later, the Leopards found themselves in a 3-0 hole. Wentworth got three shots off in the following minutes, but weren't able to connect on a goal. Senior midfielder Emily Rogers (Pembroke, Mass.) got a pair of shots on goal, but both were stopped by Endicott goalkeeper Lydia Akins (Edina, Minn.), who made six saves on the day to keep the Gulls up by three going into the second.
  • Rogers got the Leopards on the board early in the second, scoring her 27th goal of the season off an assist by senior midfielder Sarah Galan (Colchester, Conn.) to make it a 3-1 game. The Gulls then scored three more in the next three minutes, two coming from Gabriella Prisco (West Haven, Conn.), as Endicott jump in front 6-1. Another two by Pike, as well as one each from Nicole Genga (Marlborough, Conn.) and Bailey Sheehan (Pomfret, Conn.) extended it to a 10-1 lead late in the second. The Gulls scored another one with just over a minute left, bringing it to an 11-1 halftime lead.
  • A pair of goals by Alex Palermo (Reading, Mass.) were part of four goals in the first six minutes of the third for Endicott. They kept up the offense, outscoring the Leopards 7-0 in the third with Palermo adding one more as the visitors took an 18-1 lead into the final quarter. Wentworth got another goal from Rogers late in the fourth, but Endicott picked up two in the final period as well. Two more Leopard shots were turned aside by Akins in the final 15 minutes as Endicott picked up a 20-2 victory on the road.

 

NOTES

  • The Gulls took 38 shots while Wentworth took 15, and Endicott picked up 29 ground balls while the Leopards grabbed 15.
  • Endicott went 18-of-24 on clears, and Wentworth was 15-for-20.

THE SERIES

  • This is the ninth all-time matchup between the team, with the Gulls now holding a 9-0 record.
