Seven-Goal Third Quarter Lifts Women's Lacrosse Past Curry

BOSTON, Mass – Sophomore Olivia Murray (Quincy, Mass.) and senior Sarah Galan (Colchester, Conn.) each scored two goals as a part of a seven-goal third quarter as the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team (3-6, 1-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference) halted a three-game losing streak with a 13-10 win over Curry (2-11, 1-5) Wednesday afternoon.

Galan finished with a game-high five goals while senior Emily Rogers (Pembroke, Mass.) had four goals and an assist and Murray finished with three tallies. Junior Helen Hamblett (East Boothbay, Maine) had four helpers in the contest.

Curry got on the board first when senior Maggie Murray (Marstons Mills, Mass.) scored at the 4:02 mark. Galan won the ensuing draw and scored 16 with 10:42 left to even the score. While both teams had chances throughout the quarter, neither was able to find the back of the net.
  • Rogers put Wentworth ahead 2-1 with 7:37 left in the half before senior Sabrina Santaniello (Marshfield, Mass.) tied the game 50 seconds later. With 5:19 left, Hamblett fed Galan for her second of the game to give the Leopards a 3-2 lead, however, the Colonels tied the game at 3-all with 3:17 left in the half on a sophomore Ellie Hardman (Hanover, Mass.) goal.
  • The Black & Gold scored the first five goals of the third period to take an 8-3 lead. Murray got things started 1:23 into the quarter, followed by Rogers scoring 48 seconds later. Goals from Galan and Rogers within 1:37 of each other made it 7-3 before senior Jorgie Pashalian (Cranston, R.I.) connected on a free position shot with 4:58 left to make it 8-3. Freshman Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.) ended the run when she scored with 4:18 left before Hardman scored 21 seconds later to pull the hosts back within three. Murray and Galan scored goals sandwiched around a junior Morgan Orr (Bozrah, Conn.) goal to give Wentworth a 10-6 lead after three quarters.
  • Santaniello scored twice within 1:24 of each other early in the fourth quarter to make it 10-8 and, after Murray scored with 9:06 left to make it 11-8, senior Sharon Doherty (Easton, Mass.) made it a two-goal game (11-9) when she scored 20 seconds later.
  • While the two teams exchanged goals in a 72-second span, Galan sealed the win with a goal, which was assisted by Hamblett with 1:26 left to make it 13-10.
